Congressman Gingrey Fights Against Military Funding Cutbacks in Support of Troops
The Heritage Foundation announced on August 17, 2009 that Congressman Phil Gingrey has signed the Four Percent for Freedom Pledge to support an appropriate level of funding for the military. With the Obama Administration continuing to slash defense spending, it has become increasingly important to ensure that our nation's military is funded at a level that matches the requirements our country asks of our servicemembers and their families. This pledges supports a minimum level of military funding at 4 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Congressman Phil Gingrey: “It is a fundamental responsibility of Congress to provide for the safety and defense of our nation. Thus, it is critical that we do not allow the Obama Administration and the Democratic Majority to gut our military with continued cuts. At a minimum, four percent of our GDP needs to be dedicated to defense spending."
Congressman Gingrey joined Gov. Mitt Romney, House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Eric Cantor, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), and Senator Jim Talent (R-MO) and over 100,000 Americans in signing the pledge. Every American can sign the pledge at http://www.heritage.org/fourpercent/.
